- The Uttar Gujarat Muslim Education Society (UGMES) was established in the year 1952 in Visnagar, Gujarat by a few Philanthropists of the state. Together they felt a need for education among Muslims, and decided to construct a hostel building to provide facilities to the students studying in the city. Simultaneously, the UGMES started giving financial assistance for education to needy students in and around Visnagar, which continues until today and has produced a notable alumni spread across the globe.
- Over the course of time, Iqra preprimary school was started by UGMES in the year 2000, Iqra primary minority school in the year 2002, Iqra secondary school in the year 2009, and Iqra Higher secondary school in the year 2020.
- A strong necessity was felt to teach in the English medium. As a result, Iqra English school took birth in the year 2022 with preprimary classes to begin with.
- This journey of establishing educational institutions was with the sole aim of providing education with quality, morality, and refined character so as to produce individuals who can live with dignity, humanity and tranquility amongst a diverse society.
- To cater this valuable service, the Iqra school has an excellent school building equipped with spacious classrooms, computer lab, science labs, library, reading room and large playground. It provides all the facilities needed for the holistic development of a student.
- With a strong management background, service by skilled teachers and supporting staff, Iqra, as the name suggests, has become a center for learning in no time.

The Mission of UGMES towards the commencement of the Ira School was a passion towards imparting quality education to segments of the society that thus far lacked access to such platforms due to poverty, cultural issues & general absence of inclination towards education.
